Tomy and the Mermaid — Part 7* When Commander Tomy returned from the war front, the King of Lapito was overjoyed to see him alive and victorious. The king immediately fulfilled his promise — he divided his kingdom into two and gave one part to Tomy to rule. Just like that, Tomy, once banished from Okuwa, his hometown, became rich and highly influential. As you know, news spreads faster than fire. Tomy's success reached the King of Okuwa — the same king who banished him for no evil, only taking sides with his daughter, Tomy's wife, because a mermaid had followed Tomy home to confirm whether he was married. The King of Okuwa visited the King of Lapito and begged him to mediate a reunion between his daughter and Tomy. The meeting was successful. The King of Okuwa was full of shameful remorse and apologized. Tomy forgave him and his daughter, and accepted his wife back into his new castle in Lapito. But this reunion did not sit well with the mermaid. Being a spirit, she saw everything clearly. Tomy and the Mermaid — Part 6* As Tomy set out for battle, the God-sent appeared with thousands of armies in military uniform, with all kinds of weapons and bomber jets. Tomy was the field commander; the God-sent stood with him in spirit. "The hosts of heaven are set for the battle," he said. Tomy smiled with confidence. God was in control. Commander Tomy divided his troops into four — Squads A, B, C, and D. Squads A and B would handle ground assault on two front lines. Squad C would handle air raids. Squad D would stay at the rear as backup for emergency deployment. At 00:15 hours, Tomy launched an air raid on the enemies' strongholds. They returned fire immediately. To minimize casualties, Tomy ordered Squads A and B to take cover in their trenches. He continued the air bombardment till 03:00 hours. Then everywhere went silent. At daybreak, the bandits launched a fierce ground assault. Tomy's troops returned fire. "Now it is fire for fire," Tomy said. The resistance was strong — as if the bandits were well trained. But Tomy believed victory was sure. He was not alone. He passed through many dangerous areas and met a lot of obstacles. But God saw him through to a city called Lapito. Lapito was a kingdom rich in all sorts of mineral resources, and this made them witness several attacks from those bandits that captured Tomy when he was about reaching Lapito city. Even the occupied land where those bandits were residing is part of Lapito territory. When he entered the city, Tomy was surprised when the servants of the king came to welcome him and said to him, "The king has been expecting you." He followed them, and when the king saw him, the king welcomed him joyfully and explained to Tomy that the elderly man in white dress had told him about the power he had, and begged him to please use it to save his kingdom from several attacks they had been witnessing all this while. Surprisingly, as the king was talking, the same elderly man who introduced himself as God-sent appeared again from the air and told Tomy to accept the offer, and promised him that he would always be with him in the battle. But no one saw the man except Tomy. So Tomy agreed to help flush the criminals out of their illegal occupation of the king's kingdom. So he continued his journey, hoping to find a town where he could settle down. All of a sudden, he noticed that he had entered into territory captured by armed bandits, who thought Tomy was a spy. He was arrested immediately and locked up in their guard room as a prisoner of war. Those bandits all turned deaf ears to his banishment story which necessitated his wandering about in the bush. The commander asked him to dig his own grave, because they had agreed to open fire on him as the best treatment for an enemy who came on a clandestine mission into their midst. And they didn’t want his rotting body’s odour to pollute their environment. The firing was scheduled for the following morning. In the night, he wept silently and sorrowfully prayed to God. Then, that God-sent man in white dress, who gave him the white handkerchief under the mango tree the other time, appeared again.
